A couple of days ago, the Globe and Mail newspaper in Canada published an article about six tips to change your workplace culture. The tips were decent, and – if you’re interested – you can read them here.
But, to really change your workplace culture, you need to find a way for your employees to create an environment that eliminates silos, builds teams, improves morale and increases productivity. Comedy is key to changing corporate culture.
When people laugh, they immediately create a bond. Any tension between colleagues can melt away with a good laugh. Think of it this way: have you ever been mad at someone but then the person makes you laugh? It’s really difficult to stay mad after that.
What I especially love about Peppercomm, where I work, is that people are laughing all the time. They’re working…but laughing at the same time. It’s great to hear. And, it has nothing to do with the industry and everything to do with the culture.
I worked for another agency in which there was no virtually no talking, let alone laughing. That was due to the toxic culture.
